A History of Information is Chris Haughton’s first non-fiction book, and it explores how humans have shared, protected, and sometimes distorted knowledge from the very beginning. Instead of focusing on kings, queens, and battles, Haughton looks at the larger patterns — the ideas and systems that shaped how societies formed and functioned.
He follows the kinds of questions kids naturally ask: What made monarchies take hold? Why did democracy appear when it did? How did major religions rise around the same time? And what kept certain power structures in place for so long? Again and again, the trail leads back to information — how it moved, who controlled it, and how it influenced everything from religion and science to consumer habits, big tech, and AI.
Because the story of information is tied so closely to visuals and symbols, the book unfolds through timelines, graphics, and illustrations that make complex ideas feel clear, engaging, and genuinely readable for kids and the adults alongside them.

Some items have non-standard dimensions and may incur additional shipping charges. If needed, we will contact you after your purchase to inform you.
RETURNS
Online orders can be returned within 14 days of initial receipt. If more than 14 days have gone by since the initial receipt of your purchase, unfortunately we can’t accept your return or exchange.
Please contact us at hello@parkette.ca with your request before returning an item. We will provide you with a return authorization number. A return authorization number must be included in your return. All returned purchases will either be issued a store credit or exchange minus the initial shipping charge. We are a small family-owned business and unfortunately cannot offer any refunds at this time.
To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in its original packaging. Items must be unworn, and tags still attached. All footwear must have no creasing or damage to the soles to be returned. Several types of goods are exempt from being returned. Perishable goods such as food or magazines cannot be returned.
CANCELLATION POLICY
We understand that plans can change, and we’re here to help as best we can. Please note that due to recent changes in our payment processor’s policies, canceled orders will incur a 3% cancellation fee. This fee helps cover the non-refundable processing costs associated with your original payment. Once an order has shipped, we’re unable to cancel it.
