Monsters by Stéphane Servant is set in a village at the end of the world, reachable only by a dusty track, where almost nobody ever comes. Then a travelling circus arrives, promising a terrifying monster, and the whole village crowds into the tent. Otto takes his seat with everyone else. The curtains open, and what is on the stage is a human child.
The audience, Otto included, is made of monsters. What follows is the two of them slowly working each other out. Nicolas Zouliamis illustrates in dense black and white pencil, and long stretches carry the story with no words at all, which puts this somewhere between an illustrated novel and a graphic novel. Translated from the French by Sarah Ardizzone, and winner of the Prix Sorcières.

RETURNS
Online orders can be returned within 14 days of initial receipt. If more than 14 days have gone by since the initial receipt of your purchase, unfortunately we can’t accept your return or exchange.
Please contact us at hello@parkette.ca with your request before returning an item. We will provide you with a return authorization number. A return authorization number must be included in your return. All returned purchases will either be issued a store credit or exchange minus the initial shipping charge. We are a small family-owned business and unfortunately cannot offer any refunds at this time.
To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in its original packaging. Items must be unworn, and tags still attached. All footwear must have no creasing or damage to the soles to be returned. Several types of goods are exempt from being returned. Perishable goods such as food or magazines cannot be returned.
CANCELLATION POLICY
We understand that plans can change, and we’re here to help as best we can. Please note that due to recent changes in our payment processor’s policies, canceled orders will incur a 3% cancellation fee. This fee helps cover the non-refundable processing costs associated with your original payment. Once an order has shipped, we’re unable to cancel it.
