The Illustrators: Tove Jansson offers a thoughtful and visually rich exploration of the life and work of one of the twentieth century’s most original and beloved artists. Best known as the creator of the Moomin books, Tove Jansson’s work has long resonated with both children and adults around the world.
Written by Paul Gravett, this volume looks closely at Jansson’s illustration practice across her wide ranging career, from the Moomin stories to her interpretations of literary classics including Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, The Hunting of the Snark, and The Hobbit. Alongside her children’s work, the book also traces her development as a painter, muralist, cartoonist, and novelist.
Born in Helsinki into a creatively supportive family, Jansson began publishing illustrated stories as a teenager and later produced political cartoons and magazine covers during the years surrounding the Second World War. As her personal life and artistic voice evolved, so too did the world of the Moomins, first appearing in book form in 1945 before expanding into newspaper strips and beyond. This volume also draws on Jansson’s own writings, offering personal insight into her thinking and creative process.
Part of The Illustrators series, which celebrates illustration as an art form in its own right, this book provides an engaging introduction to Tove Jansson’s enduring influence and a deeper appreciation of the breadth and richness of her work.

RETURNS
Online orders can be returned within 14 days of initial receipt. If more than 14 days have gone by since the initial receipt of your purchase, unfortunately we can’t accept your return or exchange.
Please contact us at hello@parkette.ca with your request before returning an item. We will provide you with a return authorization number. A return authorization number must be included in your return. All returned purchases will either be issued a store credit or exchange minus the initial shipping charge. We are a small family-owned business and unfortunately cannot offer any refunds at this time.
To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in its original packaging. Items must be unworn, and tags still attached. All footwear must have no creasing or damage to the soles to be returned. Several types of goods are exempt from being returned. Perishable goods such as food or magazines cannot be returned.
CANCELLATION POLICY
We understand that plans can change, and we’re here to help as best we can. Please note that due to recent changes in our payment processor’s policies, canceled orders will incur a 3% cancellation fee. This fee helps cover the non-refundable processing costs associated with your original payment. Once an order has shipped, we’re unable to cancel it.
