In I Dream of a Journey, award winning author illustrator Akiko Miyakoshi tells a quietly moving story about an innkeeper who spends his days at the crossroads of other people’s travels, while secretly longing for adventures of his own.
Guests from all over the world pass through the innkeeper’s small hotel. He enjoys their company, listens to their stories, and often forms gentle friendships along the way. But at night, as he drifts off to sleep, his thoughts wander elsewhere. He imagines packing a bag and setting off without a plan, traveling from town to town, visiting friends, and discovering the unexpected.
By day, life continues at the inn, steady and familiar. Yet the dream of travel never leaves him, and he is certain that one day, his own journey will begin.
With muted colours, soft focus illustrations, and spare, thoughtful text, this picture book captures the feeling of longing for something new while still finding comfort in what is known. Tender and open ended, it invites reflection on curiosity, patience, and the quiet dreams we carry. A book that speaks just as gently to adults as it does to kids, and one that lingers long after the final page.

Some items have non-standard dimensions and may incur additional shipping charges. If needed, we will contact you after your purchase to inform you.
RETURNS
Online orders can be returned within 14 days of initial receipt. If more than 14 days have gone by since the initial receipt of your purchase, unfortunately we can’t accept your return or exchange.
Please contact us at hello@parkette.ca with your request before returning an item. We will provide you with a return authorization number. A return authorization number must be included in your return. All returned purchases will either be issued a store credit or exchange minus the initial shipping charge. We are a small family-owned business and unfortunately cannot offer any refunds at this time.
To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in its original packaging. Items must be unworn, and tags still attached. All footwear must have no creasing or damage to the soles to be returned. Several types of goods are exempt from being returned. Perishable goods such as food or magazines cannot be returned.
CANCELLATION POLICY
We understand that plans can change, and we’re here to help as best we can. Please note that due to recent changes in our payment processor’s policies, canceled orders will incur a 3% cancellation fee. This fee helps cover the non-refundable processing costs associated with your original payment. Once an order has shipped, we’re unable to cancel it.
