A Velocity of Being is a luminous collection of love letters to books, libraries, and the life-changing power of reading. Curated by Maria Popova and Claudia Bedrick, this beautiful anthology gathers reflections from an extraordinary range of writers, artists, scientists, musicians, thinkers, and creators — all writing directly to young readers about what books have meant in their lives.
Each letter appears alongside a full-page illustration by a celebrated artist, creating a moving conversation between words and images. Contributors include Jane Goodall, Ursula K. Le Guin, Yo-Yo Ma, Judy Blume, Shonda Rhimes, Elizabeth Gilbert, Mary Oliver, Jacqueline Woodson, and many more — as well as voices you might not expect, like a 98-year-old Holocaust survivor, a pioneering oceanographer, and Italy’s first woman in space. The roster of illustrators is just as remarkable, featuring Christian Robinson, Sophie Blackall, Oliver Jeffers, Carson Ellis, Mo Willems, Shaun Tan, Isabelle Arsenault, and others.
Created entirely through donated time and shared love of books, all profits from this project support the New York Public Library system. With its lay-flat binding and 272 pages of letters and art, this is a keepsake to treasure — a celebration of reading, curiosity, and the quiet ways books help shape who we become.

Some items have non-standard dimensions and may incur additional shipping charges. If needed, we will contact you after your purchase to inform you.
RETURNS
Online orders can be returned within 14 days of initial receipt. If more than 14 days have gone by since the initial receipt of your purchase, unfortunately we can’t accept your return or exchange.
Please contact us at hello@parkette.ca with your request before returning an item. We will provide you with a return authorization number. A return authorization number must be included in your return. All returned purchases will either be issued a store credit or exchange minus the initial shipping charge. We are a small family-owned business and unfortunately cannot offer any refunds at this time.
To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in its original packaging. Items must be unworn, and tags still attached. All footwear must have no creasing or damage to the soles to be returned. Several types of goods are exempt from being returned. Perishable goods such as food or magazines cannot be returned.
CANCELLATION POLICY
We understand that plans can change, and we’re here to help as best we can. Please note that due to recent changes in our payment processor’s policies, canceled orders will incur a 3% cancellation fee. This fee helps cover the non-refundable processing costs associated with your original payment. Once an order has shipped, we’re unable to cancel it.
