In The Storm, a young boy eagerly anticipates a family trip to the beach planned for the next day. As the afternoon wears on, dark clouds gather and the weather begins to change. Shutters are closed, plants are brought inside, and soon the storm arrives in earnest. Rain lashes against the house, the wind howls, and although the boy knows he is safe, he can’t help but feel afraid.
At bedtime, he wishes for a way to push the storm away. In his dreams, that wish takes shape as an imaginary ship powerful enough to blow the dark clouds from the sky. When morning comes, the storm has passed, and the clear blue day he dreamed of is waiting for him.
With spare text and striking black and white illustrations, Akiko Miyakoshi captures the tension and uncertainty children often feel when faced with loud, unfamiliar weather. The story gently explores fear, imagination, and the quiet empowerment that comes from working through something frightening. Thoughtful and atmospheric, The Storm is especially well suited to a calm storytime on a rainy day and invites reflection on bravery, dreams, and the inner worlds children carry with them.

Some items have non-standard dimensions and may incur additional shipping charges. If needed, we will contact you after your purchase to inform you.
RETURNS
Online orders can be returned within 14 days of initial receipt. If more than 14 days have gone by since the initial receipt of your purchase, unfortunately we can’t accept your return or exchange.
Please contact us at hello@parkette.ca with your request before returning an item. We will provide you with a return authorization number. A return authorization number must be included in your return. All returned purchases will either be issued a store credit or exchange minus the initial shipping charge. We are a small family-owned business and unfortunately cannot offer any refunds at this time.
To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in its original packaging. Items must be unworn, and tags still attached. All footwear must have no creasing or damage to the soles to be returned. Several types of goods are exempt from being returned. Perishable goods such as food or magazines cannot be returned.
CANCELLATION POLICY
We understand that plans can change, and we’re here to help as best we can. Please note that due to recent changes in our payment processor’s policies, canceled orders will incur a 3% cancellation fee. This fee helps cover the non-refundable processing costs associated with your original payment. Once an order has shipped, we’re unable to cancel it.
