Dobre Dobre: Baking from Poland and Beyond by Laurel Kratochvila is an authoritative collection of more than 120 recipes that charts the vast, varied, and often surprising history of Polish baking. Kratochvila, a James Beard Award finalist and owner of Fine Bagels bakery in Berlin, brings recipes ranging from twisted Krakow bagels, rose and almond rugelach, and sauerkraut and mushroom rolls to plum butter carnival donuts, soft iced Toruń gingerbread, and the iconic cream-filled karpatka. The book also spotlights ten pioneering bakers on the Polish scene and in the diaspora, featuring their own recipes alongside Kratochvila's.

Each recipe is paired with vivid storytelling and historical context — like the tale of a Polish king in exile whose dry babka, sent back to the kitchen and soaked in sweetened alcohol, accidentally gave France one of its most famous desserts. Beautiful photography rounds it out, making the whole thing feel like a warm bakery visit on a cold day.

RETURNS

Online orders can be returned within 14 days of initial receipt. If more than 14 days have gone by since the initial receipt of your purchase, unfortunately we can’t accept your return or exchange.

Please contact us at hello@parkette.ca with your request before returning an item. We will provide you with a return authorization number. A return authorization number must be included in your return. All returned purchases will either be issued a store credit or exchange minus the initial shipping charge. We are a small family-owned business and unfortunately cannot offer any refunds at this time.

To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in its original packaging. Items must be unworn, and tags still attached. All footwear must have no creasing or damage to the soles to be returned. Several types of goods are exempt from being returned. Perishable goods such as food or magazines cannot be returned.

CANCELLATION POLICY

We understand that plans can change, and we’re here to help as best we can. Please note that due to recent changes in our payment processor’s policies, canceled orders will incur a 3% cancellation fee. This fee helps cover the non-refundable processing costs associated with your original payment. Once an order has shipped, we’re unable to cancel it.
