With her long arms and legs she plays it at night, and before long the mice, moths and every other small animal nearby are gathering to listen. Then winter comes, and it's a cold one. The animals need firewood, and there in the clearing sits one big, beautiful violin.

What they do next, and how they make it right once they're warm again, is the rest of the story. Haifisch is a German cartoonist, and she borrows the odd speech balloon and panel from comics here, in a palette of orange, yellow and green with flashes of blue. The book received a special mention at the 2026 Bologna Children's Book Fair awards.
