The pieces are cut from solid linden, hand sanded, and coloured with a thin water-based matte stain that leaves the grain showing, with no lacquer over it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOut of the tray, the same pieces are ordinary blocks with unusual shapes, so the village stands up in three dimensions, the roofs come off and swap, and the sky ends up as a mountain range. The tray floor is engraved with the outline of each piece, which makes putting it back a puzzle in itself and means the picture comes out the same way every time, whoever packs it.
